Dear Trainees,
Research has proven that the more we read, the better readers we can become. It’s like the old adage: “practice makes perfect.” This school year, I will be assigning your son/daughter to read at least 4 books of choice to keep up on the reading speed and fluency for each semester. Fluency and speed are essential for students to be able to handle the rigors of high school reading in all content areas.
You should create an account on the website Goodreads.com to help them log their reading progress, find new books to read, and read book reviews from fellow readers and classmates. Please find Mrs. Knapp (Allie Knapp) on Goodreads, and add me as a “friend” so I can see your Goodreads activity. This online community will be used throughout the school year to keep track of our independent reading.
See the attached list for book suggestions, or view the recommendations given at Goodreads.com once your child creates his/her account. Of course, students may choose books that are not included on the list if they so desire.
Please feel free to email me at [email protected] if you have any questions, or call the school 269-277-5122 .
Thanks, and I look forward to working with you this year.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Knapp
